3 STEP PLAN

From about 6 months old Emma has slept in the bed with me and Drew. Neither of us have ever minded it, we actually loved her being right with us. And we wouldn't really mind if she stayed in our bed for a few more years (at least, ha).

We had decided, though, with the new baby coming that it is probably best that Emma start sleeping in her own bed. Unless we're the luckiest parents in the world the new baby will be getting up several times a night. And since the baby will be sleeping in a bassinet in our room we were afraid that it would cause Emma to lose sleep as well.

So a few weeks ago we started step 1 of the plan. Emma takes a nap on the couch every afternoon. So our first step was to have her start falling asleep on her own in my bed, since she is used to being in my bed. It didn't take a day and she was perfectly fine with napping in my bed.

Step 2 was getting Emma to fall asleep and take a nap in her bed. So after a week of napping in my bed we switched her to napping in her own bed. Again, it didn't take a day and she was perfectly fine with napping in her own bed.

So why am I so surprised that she fell asleep tonight in her own bed at bedtime for the first time ever?? Step 3 worked like a charm. She did so great. Drew and I read her a book together, said our night night prayers and gave kisses (which is our usual bedtime routine, just in our bed). She didn't cry and only yelled for me once for another kiss then she was out like a light.

I sure hope she keeps this up.

IF IT WEREN'T FOR YOU...

If it weren't for you...
I'd never know how much I love those surprise kisses on my cheek followed by "I love you Mommy"
~
If it weren't for you...
I wouldn't have an excuse to listen to VeggieTales sing silly songs
~
If it weren't for you...
I'd never know how beautiful blue eyes can truly be
~
If it weren't for you...
I would have forgot how much I love popscicles
~
If it weren't for you...
my heart wouldn't skip a beat when I see a precious hairbow that we don't own yet
~
If it weren't for you...
who would remind Mommy and Daddy to say "excuse me" when we accidentally burp
~
If it weren't for you...
what would I look at on etsy.com
~
If it weren't for you...
I could have never known how perfect at being a Daddy your Daddy is.
~
If it weren't for you...
I would forget to stop and listen to every airplane and helicopter that flies overhead
~
If it weren't for you...
I wouldn't get to dress up Barbies and fix their hair
~
If it weren't for you...
I wouldn't get an awful feeling in the pit of my stomach so bad that I almost can't breath when I
hear of very sick children
~
If it weren't for you...
I would have never known that flowers make the perfect hair accessory
~
If it weren't for you...
I wouldn't get to check out every restroom facility in Southern Illinois
~
If it weren't for you...
I would have lived my life with a million less smiles

BIBLE SCHOOL

Tonight was Emma's first real night of Bible School. She went to bible school last year but was in the nursery. This year she was with the big kids and without Mommy. She did great. She didn't want me to leave at first but after I snuck out the door I was only history to her.

She jabbered all the way home about what she did tonight. It was so sweet just listening to her all excited about bible school, she's such a big girl!

Here she is posing with bracelet she made in crafts and her coloring page.
Also notice the red sticker on her dress. She was so proud of this sticker because she got it from her teacher because she was so good.

SLUMBER PARTY

Ava spent the night with us last night. So after supper we headed to the Dairy Queen.

Don't let Emma's cheesey smile fool you, she was a nightmare at DQ.
So much so that after many warnings she got had to sit in the car while Ava finished.
I know, I'm a horrible mother!

This morning the girls fixed each others hair.
I wish I would have taken a picture of Emma's bedroom it looked like a tornado had went through it.

We haven't left the house all day. We napped and lounged around.
And as you can see we didn't get out of our pajamas or wash our hair.

4TH OF JULY

This past weekend we went to St Louis for the 4th of July weekend.
MeMaw and Grandpa met us there.

Saturday night, we watched the fireworks...
Emma watched them
with MeMaw,

and Mommy,

and Daddy,

and Grandpa.

We watched them from our hotel so they were far away.

Sunday morning we went to the zoo.

and rode the train,

and saw giraffes,

and rode the carousel,

and caught a ride on Daddy's back,

and petted stingrays,

and took family pictures.

After the zoo we hung out at the hotel pool,

Sunday night we went down by the arch to watch fireworks.
There were LOTS of people.

But Monday morning came and it was time to pack up and go home.

MISS INDEPENDENT

Since this weekend is 4th of July Emma had to try on her 4th of July outfit to make sure it fit.

Her shirt says "MISS INDEPENDENT"

And I have to show off her skirt since I embellished it with the red jewels myself!
